Keep asking questions!

As most would know we strongly advocate asking questions of medical professionals if you are ever in doubt or unsure about the diagnosis process, what treatments are being considered for pancreatitis, etc.  We’ve had some recent feedback from LM who writes about recent experiences with her 13 year old daughter who has just had a first attack.  We’ll let LM tell the story:

Hi i am so sorry your dad wasnt diagnosed properly you must be devastated and let down by the health profession.

My daughter who is only 13 had her first pancreatitis attack in September followed by being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and is now on drugs to control colitis which can bring back pancreatitis! She has now had a second pancreatitis attack and the hospital she is under thought it was her just not “managing the pain” but we stuck together as a family and said it wasnt acceptable her pain and after 10 days they are now listening to us and her after implying “difficult family circumstances” is the problem! She had an ultrasound yesterday and is having an MRCP scan next week now and may go on pancreatic enzymes like you mentioned. Fingers crossed the health care havent messed up and let her pancreas get too bad as she is on tramadol for pain as i insisted and anti sickness drugs. Its been a trying time for the last 6 months in and out of hospitals with 2 recurring diseases running alongise so i know how you must of felt.

Reading your article has armed me with fresh ammunition to ask more questions for a meeting in 1 hours time with the consultant so thank you for that.

Take care

LM

Hi there, My three year old grandaughter was diagnosed with hereditary pancreatitis in Jan 2010. Her mother grandmother and great grandfather all have or had the disease as do nine out of ten of the extended (Turner) family in sydney australia. the good thing about the diagnosis is she got treatment quickly for the attack. Not sure what lies ahead of us…the medical literature seems ambivalent about most of the tretments surgery, enzymes etc. I know everybody is different but am looking for clues. How important is the low fat low protein diet? We have an appointment with the GE specialist later this month and am making a list of things to ask them!

my boyfriend was throwing up for 3 years staight. i was always on him to go to the er. but he wouldnt. so one day he would not stop getting sick, so i took him to the er, he had gallstones, plus pancreatites. he was so sick, i almost lost him. he was in icu in a coma for 2 months. and when he woke up he had lost over 2 hundrerd lbs. he was getting fed though a tube in his stomach. he feels like he is alone and i tell him every day that there is people out there that is going though what your going though. he now is suffering from depression, and take all kinds of meds every day. and you know whats sad is, the goverment is so screwed up, they wont give this poor man a medical card, and on top of it all social serceity. he can barley walk. some thing needs to be done about this. the goverment needs to stop giving drunks and dope heads disability, and give the people who need it!!!!!

Need some help from you folks. a very good friend of mine in the Ukraine was told she had pancreatites. The food quality there is not nearlky what it is in the west. I was at the store and saw things like soy milk and suger free cookies (they had nutrisweet) and diabetic jam. Are these food she can eat and not have pain? What are some foods I can ship there she can eat? Please can anybody help with this, Is diabetic friendly food something she can eat? I know soy milk really helps fight off this but what about other foods. Please help

I have suffered from Pancreatitis since I was 16 years old but only diagnosed about 5 years ago when I was admitted to the hospitol with severe pain and vomiting that last for 3 weeks straight. After trying to follow diet plans the past few years I don’t get sick as often or as for as long but I try to moniter what I eat or drink to pinpoint what may set it off.

HAS anyone experienced pain after drinking the Starbucks or other brand iced coffee drinks that are sold everywhere that have double caffeine and different ingrediants that are suppose to provide you energy? These and small amounts of red meat seem to be two of the biggest culprits for me.

    Thanks!
